In the hospitality sector, a branding exercise is in implementation to promote Mauritius as the best island destination in the world. The tourism sector grew by 15 % in 2007 due to a mixture of “private sector genius and government vision.” Fantastic opportunities exist for investment in resort hotels, wellness centre, restaurants and business hotels. Another leg of the tourism development strategy of Mauritius is to create a business profile for Mauritius. Business tourism is a high value sector with very good growth prospect which is unfortunately under-exploited. Government wants to position that sector at the forefront of its tourism development policy and put it on the front line of the promotion and marketing strategy along with leisure and shopping tourism. And as such Mauritius is being promoted and marketed as a centre for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE).
